Stranger Things Season 4 Spoilers: The Biggest Reveals & Twists
WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Stranger Things 4. If you haven’t watched yet, bookmark this page and come back later.
1. Vecna’s True Identity: Henry Creel / One
The biggest reveal of Season 4? Vecna is Henry Creel, the son of Victor Creel (the man who murdered his family in the 1950s). But there’s more:
- Henry was Dr. Brenner’s first test subject (Subject 001).
- He had psychic powers like Eleven but was far more dangerous.
- After a massacre at Hawkins Lab, Brenner tried to kill him, but Henry survived and became Vecna.
- He’s been controlling the Upside Down and creating the Mind Flayer’s hive mind.
2. The Upside Down’s New Rules
Vecna has reshaped the Upside Down into a nightmarish wasteland:
- Time moves differently—a day in Hawkins = years in the Upside Down.
- Vecna kills his victims by breaking their bones and eyes (a callback to the Creel family murders).
- The Mind Flayer is now Vecna’s servant, not the other way around.
3. Max’s Sacrifice (And How She Survived)
In the heartbreaking finale, Max is killed by Vecna—but Eleven brings her back… sort of.
- Max is clinically dead for over a minute before Eleven revives her.
- She’s left blind, deaf, and in a coma—but her soul is still fighting Vecna.
- Her survival sets up a major role in Season 5.
4. Hopper’s Russian Prison Escape
After being presumed dead in Season 3, Hopper is revealed to be alive in a Russian prison.
- He’s forced to fight a Demogorgon in a gladiator-style arena.
- With Joyce and Murray’s help, he escapes and returns to Hawkins.
- His return sets up a reunion with Eleven in Season 5.
5. The Hawkins Lab Massacre (1979 Flashback)
One of the most disturbing scenes in the series reveals what really happened at Hawkins Lab:
- Henry Creel slaughtered most of the staff after Brenner tried to kill him.
- Eleven helped Brenner stop him by sending Henry to the Upside Down.
- This explains why Eleven lost her powers—she suppressed her memories of the event.
6. Will Byers’ Secret Connection to the Upside Down
Fans have long theorized that Will is special—and Season 4 confirms it:
- He can sense Vecna’s presence before anyone else.
- His paintings predict the future (like the Creel house and Vecna’s victims).
- The Duffer Brothers have hinted that Will may have inherited powers from his time in the Upside Down.
